KYAKULAGA ROBERT

It is my privilege to be the Headteacher of this unique school, where, with the help of a highly qualified, dedicated and enthusiastic team of staff, we consistently transform the lives of the young people, who come to us from our diverse local and wider community, providing them with the necessary skills to go on to realise their potential in an increasingly competitive world. We are extremely proud to be recognized as one of the top schools in Uganda, EastAfrica. feel free to browse our website. Love and Work Headteacher BSSM

SIBUKULE PETER

SIBUKULE PETER

What a great opportunity I got to work in this great unique school! Bishop’s Senior School, Mukono is indeed unique and iconic. There have been challenges but not insurmountable. Jack Welch, a famous CEO once said; “An organization’s ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly is the ultimate competitive advantage”. The man was right. The change and transformation the school has experienced in just a short period of time is indeed indisputably rapid. In fact, Bishop’s Senior School, Mukono is now a place for everything and everything in its place To our team leader, Mr. Kyakulaga Robert, thank you for setting the pace to transform our school from a good school to a great school. The evidence is clear in the key areas of academics, vocational skills and co-curricular programs. The excellent students’ discipline and the UCE/UACE UNEB results speak for themselves. BSSM has reached a unique level in terms of ICT capability that has eased fees payment, making student progress reports, communication with parents/guardians, CCTV installations that has enhanced security and to monitor curricular and co-curricular activities of the students and staff within the school campus. That is not enough. Bishop’s Senior School, Mukono started and has accomplished the latest grand innovation by establishing the leading and loaded school website in Uganda. Our students can access academic work and any other important information posted by the school. The general public in Uganda and abroad can also access credible information about our school from this website. For all these, I wholeheartedly say; “thank you Mr. Kalyowa and your team for this grand innovation. This is called value addition and working to remain relevant at all times. Steve Jobs, the Co-founder and CEO of Apple said; “innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower”. Colleagues, in this era you are only safe if essential and relevant to an institution .Let your single absence/presence be quickly noticed and felt both in and out of class. Do not only concentrate on your excellent subject content delivery in class, but also show concern for the total growth and development of student(s) under your care. Can many new students wish to join the school because of your presence or will many even cry “plasma” if you left? As teachers and the school at large, let us always endeavour to create a customer who creates customers for us. Our customers are the parents and more specifically, our students. Let us never forget that when a child walks into the classroom for the first time, he/she gets introduced to the window of knowledge to make his or her life brighter. It is beyond good and bad handwriting or doing home works on time or getting all spellings correct. We don’t focus only on soaring grades, prestigious degrees and a job with hefty salary packages later on in life. We must also understand that it is perhaps in school that a child gets the first taste of success and failure, good manners and bad habits, friendship and competition, compassion and care, jealousy and arrogance. As the child gets molded, the child gradually develops a mental manual on what to do and what not to, what to accept and imbibe and what to reject and refuse, how and when to react. These become lifelong lessons for him or her. The experience children go through in school equips them with skills, develops their character and personality that enables them to face the challenges in life. School education ensures the development of their cognitive, social, emotional, cultural and physical skills that prepare them for further academic careers. It also helps in character building based on six pillars -- trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. All of these can be filled in a child only through adequate education. Do we sincerely and wholeheartedly play our roles well to help the children under our care achieve all the above? - “Woe to the teacher who teaches one thing with the lips and carries another in the heart “Ghand “Every teacher worth his salt must destroy these sins: pride, anger, sloth, gluttony and envy. The teacher should be partly a scientist, partly a doctor and completely religious. He must acquire a moral alertness, mingling of patience, love and unpretentiousness. He or she should always be frank, sincere and honest” Montessori: “The teacher must avoid everything that is petty and mean” Professor Raymount: “Get closer than ever to your customers .so close that you tell them what they need well before they realize it themselves” Steve Jobs ; Are we good examples to our students in all aspects life such as grooming? - Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing –Albert Schweitzer What character and personality do we display before our students? “You cannot give what you don’t have” Rossy Diva– TO SUM IT UP: The character and personality of students cannot be developed if the teacher who is the model to be followed lacks character and personality. A teacher teaches not only by “what he/she says and does, but very largely by what he/she is. Students are imitative and suggestive by nature. They imitate the dress code, voice, habits and manners of their teachers. The likes and dislikes of the teachers become their likes and dislikes. A school is a business entity where the clients (students, other teachers, non-teaching staff, parents/guardians and the community members) deserve to be treated gregariously.
